ENCLOSURES (NO. & TYPE) REMARKS 25X1 la The Hq of the Rumanian 2d Inf Div, arrived in ORAIOVA (R 33/34/ A 83) on 23 September 1949. 2e Rumanian infantry troops moved into the "Bovine" Barracks on Vasile Alexandri Street, southeast of the main railroad station. 25X1 3, 25X1 I 4? 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 One motor transport training battalion from MMISOARA (R 16/ T 91) with many officers arrived in CRAIOVA, II Rumanian infantry and artillery troops arrived in CARAGAL (It 33/34/B 21). Others were expected to arrive inSLATINA (R 33/34/B 21). Comtent: a. According to previous, but unsubstantiated information, component units of the 2d Inf Div were transferred to the Banate in the-late sung of 1948. However, since, the Fa of the 2d Inf Div was identified in CRAIOVA in Tan.uary and April 1949*, it was assumed that the Hq of the Ed Inf Div either. re- mained in CRAICVA or only temporarily moved to the Banate. The return to CRA.IOVA of the Hq of the 2d Inf Div may be interpreted that the division returned to CRAIOVA after completion of maneuvers o ba 70 Rumanian troops were previously observed in CAR.ACAL and 3LATI TTA? c, The report gives the impression that 'Lmanian troops were shifted to areas tvlhloh had previously been occupied by Soviet troops. This information gains in importance in connection with the transfer of Soviet troops from Little "'ailachia to the Banate. 14-7owever, since Soviet rear details inere reportedly still located in CRAIOVA in September.1949 , it appears doubtful that the Soviets should have evacuated all Little "rallaohia.
