5. At the congress of the Conimuiist Party of Yugoslavia which
was held in July 1948, Stambolic was elected a meraber of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. Until
that time his most important function h-d been as a wifuer of
the Central Committee of the Coranunist Part4y of Serbia. Jith
the excel>tion of Dr. Dlago je Neskovic he is today the most
influential Cor.munist political personality in Serbia.
