Strike at Standard Vac;lum Oil Com ran
There are two unions among workers in the Standard Vacuum Oil Compeeny. The
first is the Bengal Oil and Petrol 17orkersl Union (BOP'NU), a Congress union
under Kalipads Mukher joie. BOPV','U has about 800 members. The second is the
Standard Vacuum Employes Union (SVEU) with about 300 members. The SVEU was
organized in 1946 by Suresh Chandra Banerjee Who has since been ousted from
power in the organization, Three SVEU officials at present are:
Atindra Nath Sadhu, secretary genera'.
Xndu Bhusan Chakraverty, assistant secretary general.
Debendra Math Sammodhsr, member of the executive committee and the real
power behind the throne !,i.th the company for
