The .-ethod of tank training for academy students was unknown, d. Due to the shortage of officers the academy training was shortened to one year instead of the three years originally scheduled. However, the training schedule provided for one year of preparatory training with troop units. 2. Another course at the academy encompassed politically reliable men vho underwent field officer training during a six-month rapid trainghg period. The first course of this type was completed in May 1949. One course consisted of 80 to 100 proven Communists who, upon graduation, were assigned to troop units as majors and, in exceptional cases, as lieutenant colonels and colonels.
