Delta Area
1. Early in March 1950 CHF!T Kenggs troops were transferred, to Yunnan and replaced
in Kwangtung by units of LIN Piao? s an4 LIU Po-chengg s forces. The exchange is
attributed to the unwillingness of CHM' s troops to fight and their
failure to invade Hainan.
2. On 23 February a Communist army train carrying over 4f) heavy artillery nieces
and. 2,000 cases of ammunition arrived in Canton from ,Sinkov. Beginning 28
February these sunnlies were moved out of Canton by truck toward Tsengcheng
(11349, 23-16) on the Hutyang highway.
3. On 28 February 500 Communist troops and 8 anti-aircraft guns left Canton by
rail for Shihlung (113-51, 23-07) and. Shenchuan (114-08, 22-32) to strengthen
Communist positions there.
4. The Communists in the coastal Chungshan (113--36, 22.?22) districts seized about
90 fishing junks in preparation for an assault on independent anti-Communist
goerril?_as on adjacent coastal islands. On 10 March the guerrillas ensured
Kit, Jf.,, ftc ction of 19 junks, killed 50 Communist guards and seized 50 rifles and
2 mechi>lie guns. The defecting; fishermen were bitter over their mistreatment at
the hands of the Communists.
