SUPPLEMENT TO THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1, On 21 January 1950 the 478 and 482 Regiments of the Communist 1 Independent Division advanced against mountain bases in Ohienning (116-50, 2649) hsien and Taining (117-10, 26-52) hsten defended by guerrilla troops under L/AO Choi-hsiang ( ). The guerrillas, having insufficient strength for a direct clash with the Communists, withdrew towards the Fhkien-aiangsi border by an indirect route throngh Mingchi (117-11, 26..19) hsien and Chianglo (117-26, 26-47) hsien, with the enemy in oursuit. After four_days, the guer- rillas ambushed the Comrunist unit and drove them off. 2. On 25 January the guerril'as reached Jen Tieh ( ), where they were at- tacked on 30 January by Comrunist troops, amounting to two regiments, from Taining hlitn and Ywkou (117-42, 26-21). After an indecisive engagement, the guerrillas moved on northward to Lungchi (117-42, 24-32) hsienlin early February. After 3 days and nights of continuous fighting, they arrived on 9 February at Kuangtse (117-23, 27-31) Man. From there, after regrouning, they,moved into the mountainous area of Tzuchi (117-09, 27-43) listen and, in accordance with instructions from guerrilla headquarters, established a base there. 3. On 19 February, the guerrillas attached Tzuchi.and captured it the following day. The guerrillas captured. 3 light machine guns, 2 Thompson sub-machine guns, 14 pistols, 92 rifles, a large quantity of army supplies and n11.tha archives of the bsien government. They released 57 Prisoners from the. hsien jail. i. On 24 Jalurry, the Nationalist South Fukien District Changchou (117-42, 24.32) Operational Unit (irregulars, roughly equivalent to a regiment) at- tacked over 60 Communist troops in the vicinity of Changpu (117-35, 24-06)3 lialja. In 2 hours of fighting, the guerrilla unit killed 17 Communists, wounded over 30, and cantured 2 men, 19 rifles, 1 sub-machine gun, and 1 pistol. On 7 February the 1 Company of the Nationalist Chan (116-37, 23-42) and Swatow (1/6-39, 23-22) Army 2ast Independent Battalion sank a Communist motorboat and captured 2 tugboats and 7 Communist soldiers near Chaoan bsien. 7. BetwePn 9 January and the end of February irregular units of the Chaoan and Swatow Military Sub-District stationed on Nanao Isle (117-06, 23-22) were at- tacked 4 times by Communist troops. In each attack:about 30 or 40 wooden boats . were used, but all.attennts to storm the island were repulsed. On 19 February, however, Communist troops in more than 120 wooden boats attacked with the sunnort of the Communist Swatow Patrol Flotil'a ( /11-1 vim.ro4t2 N).5 Their principal ship was the 100-ton gunboat XDO KUANG (og td, a defected Nationalist vessel. By 23 February, Communist troops had landed on Afthsu (sic) (117-01, 23-28) and on Nanao Isle. On 28 February Nationalist guerilla units on the island in- formed their headquarters by wire that they ere still holding out in the eastern and western parts of Chen Pi Kuan (0. Aw pt), the seat of Nanao Haien govern- ment.? S. Cu 11 February, more than 300 guerrillas from the Nationalist Chekiang-PUkien Border Area Column7 from a steamboat on Chientiaoho (121-37, 29-04) in Sanmen hsien8 launched a commando raid. They fought a 4-day engagement against the Communist Sanmen Helen Battalion and Sanmen 4sien Self-Protection Corps, totalling about 500 men.
