The entire copper production at Freiberg is being turned into copper sulphate.
The-production of refined copper could still be greatly increased if raw ma-
terials amore available. Plants for the refining of copper exist at Ilsenburg and
In the IHtttten!.erk llayser.v At Ilsenburg activities are at present nainly res-
tricted to the rolling of shoat iron and steel.
20 The lead works Tfuldenhtitte and IIalsbrftcl;ea are smeltin' 1500 tons of lead per
month. quipmont at both plants is considerably out of date. Rail contact, is
also very bad at these r-lants and they are spread over such a large area that
during the various molting processes the ore cools badly. Lead is being
mined at the Beihilfo shaft near Freiberg at the rate of 100 tons per nonth.
The shaft was completely dismantled in 1945/46 but has now been re -equirred
with a new plant 0 ich produces a concentrate of 70 percent purity.
3. The Gar-an-controlled production of re--smelted silic from scrap natal, amounts
to 3,000 tons per annum for the entire Zone. No fine or, rolled zinc is being
produced at present.
/+. Three shafts at Freiberg. are the main sources of tin for the Zone. They are
the Altonber , ah?.aft, producing; ores of 30 - 1,0 porcenttin content. ; the. Ehren-
frineA.err.dorf shaft, producing; ores of 20 - Y) rercont tin content ; and the
Sadisdori" shaft, producing ores of 40 - 50 percent tin content .' Tin ores
mined at Freiberg 1? th high bd .Truth contents aro. processed by electrolysis.
Thca rlant works ti with 1.6 electrically heated sulphide of sodium baths. This
rroceos takes three tireolcs and produces a fine tin of 99.6 -- 99.8 percent purity,
The capacity is ton ton^ per month. At rrosent eight tons per month
are being rroduced.
5. An antinony plant with capacity of 20 tons per nnonth has been set up at Schloiz
and is now in operation. The only aluminum plant in the Zone is located at
Bitterfold. It oroducsc 400 tons per rionth. AtteT mts are now being made at
Bitterfold to utilize the clay deposits at I3ran3ie near Leipzig by processing
with sulphuric acid and chlorine. The corrosion-proof equipment required for
this purpose will be produced with the aid of rhenium from the Hettstedt rlant
once production there is under ay.
