THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 50X1-HUM 1. The III Tank Corps, organized in 1949, has its headquarters in Novi Sad. Because of the political situations the staff of the newly formed corps was transferred to Skoplje, but again assumed headquarters in Novi Sad when it was established that the Bulgarians had withdrawn the major part of their units from the Macedonian border zone. The III Tank Corps is the best corps in the Yugoslav Army as it is completely equipped with new T-34 Soviet tanks received in 1947 from the Soviet Union. 2. In addition to the establishment of the III Corps, four tank bases have been established for the recruitment of men for tank units. These bases have schools for training reservists. They are called Tank Training Schools of the Yugoslav Army (Trenazne tenkovske skole Jugoslovenske Armije). 3. There is a lack of spare parts for Soviet tanks. The tank faCtory in Mladenovac, where mass production of tanks has not yet been started, produces spare parts previously imported from the Soviet Union. The first Yugoslav tank, the prototype of which is being produced in this factory, should be Completed by I May 1950. German and Yugoslav engineers are working on the prototype, and the tank should be a modernized version of the German Tiger tank, conditioned for use on heavy and moderately heavy mountainous terrain.
