The statistical report on production in February in the DDR was prepared by the Ministry of Planning 11 March 1950. 50X1 -HUM 2., Metallurev. Production of copper ore, crude iron and steel is somewhat below that of Janu- ary. Output of semi-finiched products was 25r, higher than in January. Ful- filment of rolled steel quota remains at 80% because of lagging production at the Riese and Untervallertorn steel plants. Production of copper varied between 40% and 945 of the quarterly *eta as of 28 February; the fluctuation is calmed by variation in the amount of scrap available. The production of lead is un- satisfactory. 3. .Stones and Earths. Output of flournt lime exceeded the quota; there are complaints of shortage of narkets. Cement production is still short of the 1949 rate because of machinery failures. 'iindow glass productionincreased over the 1949 output but in still short of quota. Individual plants fulfilled their quotas from 60% to 131% 0 4, Charade' Indust/y. Sulphuric acid production improved but is still behind schedule. Carbon sul- phate output is very /ow. Lack of phosphates brought production of phosphate fertilizer to a standstill. Potash salts are being produced ahead of quota. The quarterly quota set for special gasoline and motor oil was already met by- PS February. Insulin production was nil becaule of repairs but is expected to reach the quota in March. Only 40% of the quarterly penicillin quota is being reacheidespite increased production. 5. ;Iachinorv. The tractor production is far below the schedule; 40 hp tracks reached only 255 of the December -figure. and 28 hp trucks only 9% of quota. The factories com- plain of a shortage of parts. The quota for crane motors is not being net, Conditions in the field of l ton track p ction are similar to those applying to tractors* This document is hereby regraded to CONFIDENTIAL in accordance with the letter of 16 October 1978 from the Director of Central Intelligence to the Archivist of the United States.
