I. North Koren and -Soviet authorities are planning to construct a new railroad
connecting Kyongwon (130-10, 42-50) with Voroshilov (131-54, 43-37), via
Hunchun (130-22, 42-52) and Tung rising Chen (At 1,41. .46 ), near the Soviet-
Manchuriet border. Two surveys have been made of the -proposed. route, but.
no actua'. construction plans or date for beginning the work have been
announcid.
2. The f:L?st survey of the route was Enfle by the Soviet conrander 50X1-HUM
of t)-.e North Korean Railway, and. North Kortan railway officials. The group
inspcted the Hongui ( ) Railway Station in Kyonetion County and. a
woo,en bridge built across the river after the arrival of Soviet troops,
Tb y also examined the line 93 kilometers long between Hunchun and Tung
H ing Chen 'whichhad been constructed by the Manchukuo Ministry of Comisuni-
rations.

Soviet authorities made a second survey from Voroshilov to
the Soviet-Manchurian bord.er via Barabash (131-290 4342). ttorkers engaged
in the -project who later returned to Korea stated. that forests were cleared
along the proPosed right-of-way. .
