Location: Starting from the Meskovski railroad station in Leningrad (see Annex), one had first to ride west on 25th-October street for about 600 meters, then another street, branching off rectangularly to the south for about 600 to 800 meters. From this street an- other branched off in a southwestern direction. Driving straight down this street for about 400 meters9 one reached the entrance of the buffcer. About 200 meters before the bunker9 one street more branched off to the v.est, 2. Entrance: About 200 meters from the entrance, the street began to slope. It descended about 15 to 20 meters in a 200-meter distance. The entrance war; about 1,7 meters thick. They were coated with an earth layer about 4 meters in thickness. A small mardhouse was in front of the entrance. 3. Turning-point: A turning-point was about 180 to 200 meters inside the bunker. It was about 80 meters in diametar anC about 5 meters in height. The square was surrounded by wooden platforms about 60 cm high. On these platforms was stored buiXdinr material which was conveyed to the alleys and galleries on tarpaulins. Gravel supplied by tip- ping trucks was shipped to the interior by a field railway. 40 .in alley to the interior: The main alley was so vide that tvx) truck8 could pass without difficulty. It was about 4 meters high. t 20 to 30-met3r inter- vals galleries branched off the main alley to the riEht and left. The entrances to the galleries mere concreted and furnished with locked doors. These.,alleyS were also concreted,- about 3 Meters wide and 3 meters high. Galleries closed with doors branched off both sides of the second- ary alleys at intervals of about 20 to SO meters just as in the main alley. The inscriptions on the doors vere also the same. A red cross was fixed to several doors of the left secondary alley. There vas a smell of medicine. 50X1 6. Lighting: Electricity. 7. Ventilation: Bans, each 60 cm in diameter, were built-in at irregular inter- vals: In certain places smoking waa permittod, e.g at the ent- rance and the turning-point. Semi-underground water containers had been installed there. 8. -oad signs or further inscriptions were not observed. Only at the turninr-point had advertising boards, inscribed with the designations of the most efficient details, been fixed to the walls. 9. Guards: Two sentries with rifles stood at the entrance, any nerson enter- inc the bunker had to produce a special identity card at a small guardhouse. A vagrant officer was commander of the guard. The ruards wore ooviet Army uniforms, a green crossbar was on their epaulets. Their caps vere rreen bordered.
