1.. The city has a population of about one million, It is situated about 500
km southwest of Ufa, on the Trans-Siberian railroad and on the left bank
of the Volga River, at its confluence with the Samara River,, It is
bounded on the west by the Volga and on the south by the tributary Samara:
2. The Volga.at Kuibyshev has a width of about onskilometer The boat and
barge traffic is heavy; especially southward,, The Samara River, one kilometer
wide, is crossed by a steel railroad bridge which carries the Trans-Siberiai
Traffic density on the Trans-Siberian is reportedly high and consists mostly
of shipments of industrial and mineral products,. The line is double-tracked
and steam traction is used,
Kuibyshev was not damaged during the war. The streets in the center of town
are partly laid with cobblestones; the most important are paved with asphalt?

This reinforced concrete structure, is about 70 meters high, and is reported
to be one of the largest silos in the USSR.

bail bearings. It is situateQ in the center of tov,n,, it is a huge plant,
formerly the, cavalry barracks, with numerous masonry structures, The skilled
workers number about 25,000 and are mostly women. There are three eight-
hour shifts. The entire plant is surrounded by a wooden fence., Armed
guarus are stL.tionea in the towers at the four corners of tine fence, The
plant is connected to the railroad by a spur.;
