He is charged with the political indoctrination and education of the workers. The previous leader of the trade union in the plant has been recalled. 2. It is expected that Technical Director Lorentz will have to give up his position in the near future, probably in April. Looker, former engineer in charge of planning, is scheduled to be his successor; he will go to a special indoctrination school in Bernau during April. 3. The main office of the "Kabel-AG* has been transferred from Berlin-Weissensee to Berlin-Lichtenberg. It is now located in the offices of the former Knorr Bremse plant. The 7eissensee offices now house the Russian General Economic Staff, formerly located in Karlshorsto 4. It is planned to reorganize the OSW as the central research institute for the Ruesian one 5. The management of the nKabel-AG" has not yet published its production schedule for 1950. The Kabelwerke AG in Berlin-Oberschbneweide is scheduled for transfer to public ownership in the near future. It may be assumed that the methods to be used will correspond to those employed in the recent transfer of Gema- Kopenick which was completely dismantled after the changeover and from which all stores, equipment, and tools were removed. The firm is now to be reorganized under a new name and charged with developing high frequency equipment for the Russian Navy. 7. OSW is still having financial difficultieo. The need for ready cash has necessitated another sale of 400,000 DM (Ost) north of stores. . Investment capital for 1950 is limited to l.2 million DM (Ost) to be distributed as follows* OSW 600,000 DM ( 1133? 300,000 n TBN 300,000 tl; CLASSIFICATION SE AT u Tr"i4 .5./1 STATE NAVY NORD 1 1 66MBUTION ARMY MR . All preparations for the mass production of tubes RPK and PK2 (Russian nomenclature) were stopped by the Russians without explanation. The sum of 300,000 DM (Oat) had already been invested for equipment and tools for the project. 12. The increase in tube production is seriously hampered by the lack of skilled glass bbeers for quartz glass and machine glass. 13 It is anticipated that even the limited tube purchases made heretofore by the Eastern Furopean states will be completely cancelled in the near future. Poland and Czechoslovakia, for instance, get their tubes from the West or from Switzer- land, where American tubes are availeble at very low prices. Accordin?; to a recently completed survey, certain tubes which cost 15 DM (00t) can be purchased for 1 West), 14, Currant Russian production orders have been reduced by two-thirds. This applies chiefly to radio tubes. At the same time, the sale of tubes to the West, particularl; of the L series, has been prohibited. The production potential of the fine wire plant has been increased 100%. Actual production, however, has not changed materially since the previously reported percentage of rejects has not improved. 16. The Russians have allocated another 500,000 DL (Ost)for the expansion of the production plan. The funds are to be used for the procurement of tools, machine -tools, and measuring equipment.
