INFO. 25X1X It is reported that at least part of the arrly in Arequipa, Peru, has joined the populace in the anti-Odria outbreak which has reached the proportions of a rill.-scale revolution. The shooting of demonstrating students in Arequipa reportedly worsened a tense situation and aroused the citizens of the city. 2. Colonel Carlos Ilerrera Lynch is reported to be one of the revolt leaders.* Although previously considered loyal to Odria, he nay have been forced to join the rebels. 3. Arequipa 1s'virtually isolated and it has been extremely difficult to obtain reliable information. It is reported that the military junta is sending an Array Medical Corps detachment with enbulances and supplies to Arequipa, a fact which indicates that the fighting continues, 4. Lima is still quiet, although the general political situation is tense. In view of the violence at the Universities in both Cuzco and .1requipa, an assault battalion was called out on the night of 13-June to Ord the Lim university buildings. 25X1 A Corm nt.
