On 25 June 1950, 200 Soviet air advisers were stationed at the Hang-chow air base in addition to 20 combat aircraft which included 8 jet planes. 2. around 20 June 'ihanghai airfields had an unknown number of jet planes as well as 40 fighters of the Japanese Zero type and of another type which "closely resembled American Black 14dows and were reportedly night fighters." 3. There is an airfield installation 17 kilometers long in the area between Chiahsing (120--45, 30.46) and .:angtien (120--44, 30-39). The field is for fighters and bombers. One of 3 all-weather runways is almost completed. 4. On 26 June two "high-ranking" uniformed Soviet air advisers with a ten:man Chinese Communist Army bodyguard arrived in Canton by rails reportedly to inspect Canton and Hainan airfields. INFORMATION REPORT An official of the Communist Linistry of Communications en route from Shanghai to Canton about 22 June stated that :anchurian and 4orth china railroadp are "very busy" in the southward movement of air personnel and material from the "main air bases of those areas" Which include I+iukden, Peiping, Changchun, Kalgan and Harbin. Aircraft concerned include 200 jet planes. Chinese railways are now under the supervision of military units of the railway corps. Most of the engineers in these units are Soviets. 6. The highway between Chiangshan (118-37, 25-45) Station and Foochow is being doubled in width and reinforced for military use. 5. 7. About 15 June, 96 "landing craft" for'the Taiwan invasion were assembled at 25X1 X Shanghai and Nanking. 8. There is one "coast artillery" unit in the Hangchow area manned entirely by Soviet personnel and equipped with 40-cm tractor-drawn guns.
