I. The following inforr ation on troop e;uarters was
obtained up to ?i;ece-ber 1949.
The ca' p was located on the !Li perimeter of Siemla-
nowice, near a coal rune on the western side of the
road to aichalkowice (,, 51/1V 57).
The installation consisted of eight former Gerv?an
i eioh Labor .ervioe eantorv ent buildings, two large,
lowni, brick buildings located outside the canton:-nt
and still occupied by civilians, and several utili-
ties buildings.
2. Polish troops gradually moved into the cantonient
after July 1949. They, numbered about 800 by Decem-
ber 1949. They arrived in grou-+s of 30 to 50 and
were issued uniforms only in the cantonrient. half
of the troops were Congress Poles*and half o-P themen
were ethnic ?erv-ans from Upper ilesia and a z aFaa
(P 53/11 20). They were frorh. 3.8 to 20 years of age
and, according to their own stats ents, were to go
through a two-year term of labor service,, fa' .owed
by to years of military service. The troops wore
brown uniforms. ::i.a wore epaulets without insignia,
and i3COs wore epaulets Faith silver braids. ilthough
no arcs were observed, fire by submachine E uns or
light machine (runs was repeatedly heard. 'T'hree days
of the veelc were devoted to labor and three daps to
drill.-

This assumution has been revised,
now ever, to the effect that the troops belonged
to the Polish Arirv, It is believed that these la-
bor battalions are made up of politically unrelia-
ble men who are engaged nr. i*iarily in labor activ-
ities and undergo only li'?ited arms training.
