i1G Polish goverrment, asked
the Soviet government if it could supply Poland with mining >chinery
m,nufactured in the USSR. The USSR agreed to supply Poland if machinery
of Soviet manufacture was suitable for Polish nines. To investigate
this point, the USSR sent two corrissions to Poland, one in I y 1949
and one in ITovonber 1949, and one r zchine which was inrtolled rtt a pit
near Katowice. The :achine appeared to the Soviet engineers to work
satisfactorily and Polish nines are to receive six of then early in
1950-

coal fron the coal-face and load it on a conveyor belt, is unreliable
and subject to frequent breakdowns.
