All officials In the DDR Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry are
,,oticinced that there will be a general derationing of food items be
-
fee, the eref? of the year and before the voting takes place in the
Fal, Food items going off the ration will be only those pertaining
to plant products with the exception of fats produced from plants.
An1a1 products such as meat and fats, and dairy products such as
ogg and milk iil remain on the ration, Two further general prbee
-edoetions are planned in the HO shops before this derationing takes
etnee. There is no sign that food rationing will be reimposed after
the tall elections. There is no meat being stored in any quantity
eayehere beyond normal stocking for marketing purposes. Thera are
not enough stocks on hand for such a move.
There are fsculties for Agricultural schooling in the following uni-
veeeities in the DDR: Greifswald and Rostock in Mecklenburg; Humboldt
In Berlin; Halle in Sachsen-Anhalt; Jena in Thueringen; Techniscbe
Boehsehule fuer Landwritnchaft in Leipzig in Sachsen; and two Forst-
Doehschulen in Brandenburg. The requirements for the Diplom-Landwirt
degree are so high in the east zone (because of the various bureau-
crat;ic organizations devoting their attention to farming), that there
Is a lack or about 29500 such trained personnel at the present time.
There are anproximately 19500 students in the six semesters at the
eninerseties at present, of which approximately 500 will be graduated
th74 year, There are in addition two politica) administrative schools
for Agrnnuitural Administration in Brandenburg, at Forst Zinna and at
Ceelnagen, These give no training in technical matters to any ap-
nreAable extent The former school has approximately 1200 students
taking courees from 4 months to 2 years, depending on whether or not
thee have had previous experience n the latter school there-are
egeculturai trade schools whIch traftn farm youths from 18 to 21

Thee has been no purge of the higher-ups in the large cooperatives
en Tecklenbure as such, and no action has been taken which might in-
eieste pressure on the part of the SED towards decentralization, In
