Results of the production plans for various industr9 eb ftet 4 f st
quarter of 1950 follow. They are given In percentages of the targets
set:
l
Copper ore
99%
Pig iron
104%
Crude steel
98%
Roiled steel
96%
Failure to reach the target figure for crude steel was due to the need for
considerable repairs to converters at the tfiaxhitte.. These have now been
completed.
Rolled Steel production was divided as follows:
Steel of various profiles
Rolled. sheet metal
14E
Steel tires
150%
Tubes? seamless
66%
Tubes, welded
92%
Production of profile tool steel was held up because of a lack of rolls and
the fact that one ingot push heating furnace at P.iesa was out of action because
of the breakdown of the ingot pushing device. Another reason for the failure
to reach the target in steel of various profiles was the need for extensive
repairs to the push heating furnace and the breakdown of the combined billet
and sheet billet rolling mills for which there are no spare parts at the Lkaxhatte?
Poor results in seamless tube production are duo to technical faults in con-
nection with the push heating furnace, the press and the recoil apparatus.
Poor results in welded tube production are due to insufficient deliveries of
semi-finished material from Auerhammer and t Ze Td'hxhhfitto.

Failure to reach target figures for 22 and 28-HP tractors was due to insufficient
supply of material. The high figures for 40-HP tractors are accounted for
by special deliveries to the Zwickauer Werk where urgent work is carried out.

7. Transportation
" 103.8%
1.14.1.E
The transport plan envisaged a total of 1,656,000 loaded cars or an average
of 18,100 per day,. The actual figure was 1,555,601 or an average of
17,248 per day, i.e. 93.7%. Failure to reach target figures may be
attributed to the following causes:
1) The lack of release instructions from firms and the consequent holding
up of a considerable number of open freight cars.
2) The small amount of work done during weekends and the delay of a certain
amount of night work by winter weather and a shortage of lights.

3) The adverse effect of frosty weather on loading in the mines and
gravel pits.
Ninety-three percent of the coal-loading target figure was reached.
Repair work was carried out as follows:
Locomotives 99.9%
Freight cars 71.3%
Passenger cars 93.4%
S-Bahn cars 68.4%
Lack of material was responsible for the low figures.
b. Sh -j ing.,
1,930.,000 tons were planned. The figure reached was 1,839,854 tons,
i.e., 95.3%. Failure to reach the target figure was due to high costs
of freight, extensive journeys of goods, and in some cases the deprecia-
tion in the value of goods, e.g. pressed coal.
