1. Daily from 6 to 14 August 11508 at Klan can and Tachang Airfields, Shanghai,
four to six planes took off, circled the fields, and landed, repeating the
-performance eight or nine times.* All of the planes were single ring
pursuit planes which were painted black.

2. The Chinese Communist Air Force (CCAP) has sent about 50 airplanes to
various airfields in Fukien.

An article appearing on 22 August in the China News, Taipei, and the K W&
Shan; Daily I3 w , Hong Kong, said that the Communists are building five
airstrips in south Fukien, but this is not tree. The only Fukien airstrips
are at Foochow, Chienou, Changting (116-20, 254j),** Amoy*' and Chinchiang
(118-34, 2-54). The Chinchiang airstrip is very small, The strip at
Pucheng (118?29, 28--01) is unusable.

4. There are about 200 Soviets in Foochow. Soviets are directing improvements
to Nantai Airfield,** about.10 kilometers from Foochow.

The CCAF sent about 40 air force volunteers from East Germany, consisting
of pilots and ground ?personnel, and 46 Soviet Air Force personnel to Canton
by plane. The group is under the com and of Soviet Air Force Captain
chin-tye'pai.ssu ( ~ { ) (1 Zhatebasov). About 30 stayed at Canton
and in the South China area. The rest went to the Chienou (118-19. 2704)
airfield by train via man for assignment.***
