1. The engineer road construction battalion was ruartered in
I- asarny Obo ara, a two-story brick barracks s 1 or 2 km north-
,?:ost of Plavecke ?odhradie (P 49/T 03) , on the rowd to

2. About tvio-thirds of the battalion personnel were Czechs,
about one-third Slovaks and 20 soldiers were Hungarians.
Most of the 11. were considered rolitically unreliable. They
included former officers and ECUs who had been reduced in
ran?..: to r rivates. (3)
The battalion consisted of the headquarters and only one
company. (4) Senior Lieutenant Fedorcik, (fnu), was both
battalion and company commander. The company, called the
1st Co. was organized into. the. lst throug_i 3rd Platoons,
which were classified by function as demolition platoon,
road construction platoon and bridge building platoon.
The personnel of the company numbered 4 officers, 7 regular
SXOs and 306 LTT.
4. The battalion had 350 rifles of German, Czech and Soviet
origin 6 Soviet submachine guns, 6 Soviet pistols..12
bayonets, 3 trucks and 4 passenger cars. Special equipment
included an air compressor, 10 pneumatic drill.harrners and
3 electric motors for stone crushers in the lst Plat- a
steam roller and a tractor in the 2d Plat; an electric field
forge, two electric drills, an autogenous welding set, 15

the 3rd plat.
After sixwpeeks basic training the personnel were distri-
buted to the triree platoons. Eau were interchanged between
the platoons at 6-month intervals.
