T'eplotechna National Corroration, with main offices in Praha, has branch
concerns in Krzrlo-vy Vary (Karlsbad), Teplice-Sanov, Hradec Kralove,
Doma,zlice (Taus - N50/P`70 ), Brno, Noravska Ostrr.va, and Olomouc.* The
concern builds factory chimneys and industrial furnaces; the Olomouc branch
builds central heating 'plants.
2. The Olomouc branch is building n central heating plant for the town of
Olomouc. Work was begun in the spring of 1950 and heating ipe lines have
been laid in parts of the town. , It is intended that during the suarir'r
months the steam will be used to increase the output of electric power plants
in the vicinity. A central heating plant is also being built in Prerov
(P50/003) while in Brno a new chimney, 120 m. high, has been erected for the
centr -1 heating plant t'iore,
3. The Moravsk n Ostrava branch cooperated in the building of a model IV blast
furnace in Trinec (Q50/(X7) which was put into operation in January 1949.
The following spring an explosion occurred in the furnace and the chimney
collapsed? This d&tmage has since been r--paired. A new blast furnace is to
be begun in the f:ll of 1950 in Trinec. It will have a capacity of 900 tons
in one charge, making it the largest blast furnace in Central Europe

The foravska Ostrava branch is relining the blast furnaces at the Vitkovice
Tron of orks (Witkoi? itz - P50/0581). The first furnace was put back into
operation on 22 1.%3r 1950. Since relining takes about three months, the Iron
forks will be one furnace short for the rest of the year. It is expected
that Teplotechna. will begin construction of new coke plants in Vitkovice
and Kinacice (P51/N29) as soon as '.cork is completed on the coke plant in
Trines.,
5. Teplotechnaa in Praha is working on a new blast furnace being built for the
Konev Iron Works in Kl,-idno, and on a new revolving electric f rnace for alloy
steels in Kraluv Dvur (Ko"niginhof - 051/073) which will consist of two
batteries of four furnaces, each 4 in. in diameter and 3.5 m. deep. In
Hr'i.dek (N5(/L>2i.) s'x gas-fired pre-hera.ting furnaces are being b tilt for the

rolling rills of the United Steel Works (Srojone occiarny, n.p. ). A now

powmn which, according to the Five Year Plan, is to deliver electric
current to all inlustrial plants in western Bohemia**
