1, At low or neap tides it is possible to walk between SonJae-do (126.;}O,
37-14) and Taebu-do (126-36, 37-14), and between Taebu-do and the
mainland. One such tide occurred on 2 September.
2. North Korean troops on Taebu-do consist of one company with a possible
strength of 180 men. At night members of this company, often as many
as 100, move to SonJae-do where there are prepared positions on high
ground. On the nights of 28-31 August there were attempts made to
land small parties of troops on Yonghung do (126028, 37ol6), but these
failed because of weather, the presence of patrol craft, or other
reasons. Attempts were also made to send intelligence agents to
Yonghung=do to determine the strength of ROK troops. On Taebu-do
1,004 young men were collected as security patrols. Seven men on
Taebu-do volunteered for the North Aorean army, bringing their own
rifles. The troops were armed with tm1 rifles.
