4. Kovo is organized into the following nine independent trading sections:
a. Heavy :achinery Section, hdirected by Ing. Richard Krasnyl 1 25X1
This section employs about 80 persons. Its offices are located at Palais
Platyz, Praha I, Narodni trida, at Praha II, Jungmannova 199 and at Praha
II, Palate Fenix, Vaclavske nam. It handles machinery produced by Skoda
works in Plzen and Hradec Kralove, CKD in Praha-Karlin, First Brno and
Karlovo Pole Engine ring Works (Gottwald Works) in Brno, and the Vitkovice
Ironworks (with the exception of thorn items exported by Ferromet). This
section is swamped with orders from the USSR, the satellite countries and
Czech key investment plants. Delivery is delayed from 36 to 72 months because
of a shortage of raw materials and skilled technical personnel. Ing.
Fruehaull is in charge of orders for the Czech key 25X1
investment plants.
b, ?s and 'Jorkshop Equipment Section?l!directed by Ing. K. Kondl HK1
His deputy is Ing. Polacek; an Seifert is in charge of the
machine tools division; Stanislav Strnad is political secretary. This
section employs about 150 workers, of whom about 70 percent are members of
the Communist Party, but only 15 percent are convinced Communists. The
offices of the section are in the Fenix Palace, Vaclavske nam.. Praha.
The 1949 export quota for machine tools was 100,000000 kcs; that for 1950
is 1,200,000,000 kcs, 60 percent of which is scheduled to be exported
to the USSR and satellite countries. Skoda SUR heavy lathes, Skoda A 20
and A 40 automatic lathes, Plauert? Skoda HVF milling machines, carussels?
heavy planing machines, cold thread rolling machines and machines for the
manufacture of nails are most in demand. The export of machine tools is
unsatisfactory because of the over-production of machines for which there
is little iemand. The USSR is given first priority for all machine tools,
folic-wed by key investments for Czech heavy industry' 1 25X1
c. High and Low Voltage Electrical Machinery Section,/ directed by E. Jelinowitz.
The offices of this section are in the Fenix Palace. It handles products
manufactured by Krizik Electrotechnical Works in Praha, CKD, Metre Nation-
alized Enterprises in Dlansko and Tesla in Praha. Delivery of generators
of more than 150 KW output is between two and three years.
d. Transportation Section, directeeby Ing. Jarolimek, a Communist who was a
member of the Communist action committee and was Export Manager of Kovo
before the reorginization. The head of the automobile export division is
Ing. Hackll 'the head of the motorcycle division is J. Brazda, 25X1
1 1 The section controls the export of automobiles, motorcycles 25X1
and industrial tractors. Its major automobile manufacturing plants are
Skoda, Aero and Tatra; the main motorcycle manufacturing plants are Ogar?
Jaya and CZ,
e. Agricultural 1:achinery Section,Airected by Ing. Hortekl 1
was formerly employed in the Machine Tool Section. His deputy is K. Matousek?
the former manager of this section. Kreibich, who is in charge of the tractcr
division, was dismissed from his position but has been rehired. The main
offiues of the section are in the Fenix Palace. The main producers of tractors
handled by this section are Zetor and Skoda. Production of agricultural
machinery is being adapted for use in Central Europe and the Balkans where
horse-drawn equipment is prevalent; of the equipment handled by this section,
only threshing rachines are of modern design. Poland is the most important
customer for agricultural machinery and tractors.
f. Sporting Equipment, Typewriters and Optical Equipment Section, directed by
Ing. J. Bazilal 1 The main offices are in Praha 11, Mustek.
Bicycle chains and high quality optical equipment are in great demand.
Recently, 100.000 defective chains which had been made by CZ in Rakovnik
!were returned. Director Vozenilek was dismissed
from his post in the section because of this although the fault actually
lay with the soft steel supplied by Poldi.
Printing, Textile and Foodstuff Machinery Sectiontliwith offices in the
Louvre Palace, Praha II, Narodni trida. This section handles printing
presses and equipment produced by Alba in Horovice and by CZ, textile
machinery produced by the Warnsdorf Works and foodstuff machinery, especially
