There are no Soviet military units in the Sulina region. Danube barges pass from Sulina toward Ismail and Reni. Reni is a terminus of the Ploesti pipeline. Barges are tugged by Sovromtransport tugs to Odessa, Sevastopol, and M. vorosisk. Soviet tankers are also used on the Danube River for hauling cargo. 3. There are floating bridge parts located at Isaccea which are regularly moved in the area. Some parts are taken to Ghecet from Iaaccea. 4. Two ki oeeters from Sulirm in old German positions, coastal and anti- aircraft guns of an unknown description are located. 5. Some cement is brought in by barges which is used for air-raid shelter con- struction. Some shelters are located along the Danube in front of Sulina. Beaches near the city are restricted areas. 6. The Rumanian Army has installed telephone lines buried in the sand along the beaches running between Sulina and Sf ntu Gheorghe. Opposite Sulina along the Danube, plants once belonging to the Danube European Cormni tt:ee are now under the direction of the Danube Maritime Commission. Barges and motor launches are constructed there. Barges moving at night carry war material including anti-aircraft and fielc artillery guns. Shells are unloaded at Sulina and transported to ammunition dumps located 1,500 meters east along the Danube River.
