REMARKS- U M 0 1, There was neither .-cork on new German inventians ~ nor any further development of existin[ inventions at the :..ilitary Technical itescarch Institute (VTIJ), in Pra.uo. German engineers had completed several radar sets with G(_,rraan material and had )laced them in operationo 20 Terlin type radar set was corrpioted at the VTU in trio summer of 191 -and. :vac; 7iv :n to the aeronautical departments, finder the supervision of Lieutenant Bayer-Cosky, to be tested. It could not be determined whether or not the device ha;i bean used in test YliJhtso (1) There are no indications t?fiat model .:1 radar sets 'nave been used, any ?:oiient-miel- ty o radar sets ,Tore constructed and instilled in aircraft, (2) 3, In 1945 and 1)46 about 2J0 radar sots of [.ichtonstein ,,'J-2 type were assembled at the Loren:: branch office, which had i ;;on moved to the vicinity of i "odenbach, (3) Hohe-it;riol cots were also asso athled from captured riaterials, 'd l:ar ;e Czechoslovakian firr3 was to start pro- duction of forlin devices in the fall of 1943,, (a) 1, A yodel of an. ';a_rerican Proximity fuze used in antiaircraft creaoons was examined and reconstructed by German enr inocrs, 'he o:-)eratinr* >. The 1"li'is i irn in : ?odeni:ach was to start production of miniature tubes co;)ied from original Arizerican transmitting triode, amplifier triodes, and t ratron tubes. These tubos were about 10 mm in diameter and 30 to 35 mm lon;;, fio results were known yet in the fall of 1 CLASSIFICATION " ^/^ 1;.r1nT./7, Approved For Release 2000/05/18 : CIA-RDP82-00457 Approved For Release 2000/05/18 : CIA-RDP82-00457R006100590002-2 25X1A MFICLUS On 2 cc 5:E.j;?TL Th 6. A former assijtant to a professor, now deceased, who worked the Prague Listitute of `technology, continued his work in the infrared 7, In addition to the development of remote control devices for glide-bomhs, experiments vie-.'o also made on control sets for V-2 rockets. (6) Coar:tents,, (1) no or n ype radar set operated on the 9-cm band, Tests with this set probably started during the fall of 1949. The performance of this set wxs not quite satisfactory when compared with results achieved with the Rott~:rdam device, which was developed in the ;Test. The Berlin set was modified and a second experimental set was in- stalled in an Fs7200. This new set produced better visual signals. American fighters shot down the F%7--200 equipped with the set in aerial adtion near Brandenburg in February 1945. (2) The Ilohent ai.el set is the FuG-200. This was the well-known searching instrument for ship targets which was also intended for use as an improvised bomb sight during instrument flights. (3) The a ssombly of Lichtenstein SN-2 sets at the Bodenbach VTU was 25X1A previously reported. As the production data given in current re;port seems to be much too high for the Czechoslo vakian Air Force, it is possible that the sets were delivered to the U.5.5,.B, for use in night fighter training. (4) This is the first report of mass production of the Berlin device, such production is possible only in one of the former branch plants of the Tesla Nationalized Enterprise. (5) This information indicates that proxir, aty fuzes were reconstructed or further developed from - models. An engineer who worked in this field is now known to be in ::Io ,cow ,hukovski, tl1us indicating that the Soviets are greatly interested in these developments. (6) This report supplements previous information on radar developments in Czechoslovakia and the service of German technicians in those develop 25X1A :rents. The Soviets transferred main plants and the top specialists to the and carefully supervised research cork still done in Czechoslovakia. :kcr:ie key personnel from the branch plants established in Czechoslovakia by the Soviets were later transferred to the Uac:,S,rt,s thus indicating that German scientists in the UOS,SO:ZO are still engaged in research work in their individual fields.
