These were the Kuomintang faction and the Chinese Communist ['arty of the Philippines 7 The influence of both groups on Philippine Chinese has been consiaeraoie A 2,, These two factions have vied with each other for supporters and for con- tributions from Philippine Chinese, particularly from the wealthy and in- fluential leaders of the commercial community. As a result of this competi- tion for financial support., many Chinese businessman have been forced to pay a major portion of their business profits to one or both of these political groups. 3. ',hen it was decided that this situation hart become intolerable, a group of Chinese merchants and businessmen organized the Chinese Commercial Party as a, protective association, designed to protect its members against the systematic soliciting of the other groups. 4? Since the formation of this Chinese Commercial Party., members have been contributing only to the political party they favor; whether Kuomintang or Communist, rather than being forced to contribute to both. Philippine authorities are watching all three groups closely., since it is believed that the Communist faction may attempt to gain control of the new group. Comment. This new group which is known as the Chinese Commercial.
