Construction of connecting railway line between Hongui-dung (130-31
42-27) railway station, Korea, via Yongbyon--dons, (130-40;, 42-26), Korea,
to an undetermined location in the U56H, was began in Juk.y 1949 with
completion scheduled for ;Ul~ay 1950. The completion date was later
changed to July 1950.
2,, As of 6 July 1950, the roadbed was completed on five of six construction
divisions to the Tisinen River, and track had been laid for six kilometers
from Hong xi -dong, The railway gauge is standard ?4' 8.xa. Gasoline-
powered locomotives were operating over the completed track , hauling
construction materials?
3. The construction included a roadbed with an average height of four meters,
composed of yellow dirt from the surrounding fields, a wooden bridge
over Huk--"chi (Black Pond) (130-36, i2-26) ., and a bridge of ursdeterixilned
construction over the Tumen River#? The Iluk?-=chi bridge was built as a
temporary structure, and three concrete piers for a perii,anent bridge had
been completed by 6 July. The length of the bridge is So meters. A
highway parallels the railway and crosses iluk-chi on a wooden bridge.
There was a rumor in Hiongu:%'dong of an a: reement oetween the USSR and
North Korean governments that the USSR would supply the technical perr:
sonnel for the con3truction job, while North Korea would supply the
materials and labor? In early July there were 800 regular laborers and
3,000 conscripted laborers from surrounding farms employed on the project,
