:: , The Solvay Jeel.e, a chemical plant in Dern aurg Dossau, has been granted a
financial credit to the mount of 91.1-51000j000 under special arrang-aent and
:t the direction of the DDR. The Solvay-1.iorlm is a so-called "Trouhandbctrieb"
(enterprise under trusteeship). It has not until norr been made a people's-
osned enterprise because more than one-half of its capital investment is
foreign owned.
2. The following plants have, at the decision of the government., received additional
investment credit:
VEI3 Gurlami Heidenau, Saxony, for improving ,machinery DU-270,000
VEI3 Pulverfabrik Lan, enrinne to complete the plant EU- 509,000
VEI3 Stahliwcrk, "G. Schwarz" (sic), Saxony DN-793,000
3, The 1950 investment plan, calling for a total of ]1!-2,350,000,000 to be invested
throughout the DDR, has been only fulfilled to appro:: i.matoly 3( during the
first half of the year. Lack of materials and skills is generally blamed for
failure to carry out further industrial expansion.

Comment: Source was unable to explain the reason for the DD1's interest
in the Solvay6;'J1cr1:e, but o_sined that the granting of such a credit to this firm
was significant. Since the amount of the credit will be included in the total
allotivrcd for 'this type of financing in the imrectrient plan period in Land
Saxony-Anhalt, it may be assumed that the DU five million vri.ll be lacking for
other intended credits.
