1. There are apnroximately 250,000 Chinese Com-unist troops in Yunnan .'rovince.
Approximately 200,000 (sic) are in the 13, 14, 15 Armies, 4 Army Group,
2 Field Army.* There are 12,000 in the Temnorary 12 Arry and 14,000 in the
Temporary 13 Army.
2. The 13 Army is in the Kunming area. One division is garrisoning Kunming, one
is stationed just outside Kunming, and the other division is stationed in the
Huitse (103-11, 26-25) - Chaotoung (103-39, 27-20) area.
The 14 Army is in western Yunnan. Its headquarters are in Tali (100-11,
25-43)." One division is in Paoshan (99-09, 25-07). one is in Tvfagchung
(98-29, 25-01), and the other is in the Lichiang (100-15, 26,-51)
The 15 Army is in southern Yunnan. Its headquarters and one division are
in Vengteu (103-23, 23-20).*** One division is in Wenshan (10444, 23-22)
and the other is in Chienahui (10250, 23-40).
5. The Temporary 12 Army is in eastern Yunnan."" LI Ta-teao C47 4n 4/ ) is
deputy to the commanding ofAcer Chien-heun (4:4 0,4 ). The conmander
ofrthe 34 Division, Terporary 12 Army, is YIN (If ), 35 Division, 17.0 Cho
), and 36 Division, PAC Ju-knang (lani-irk). The troops aro
equilped with former Nationalist weanons consisting of light and hfnvy
guns and 60mm and 80mm rortars.
6, The Temnorary 13 Army is stationed in southern Yunnan in the Yuchi 10229,
24-23 and Tunghai (102-45, 24-08) "" area. Its headquarters are fit Yunhi.
Most of the troops are equipped with weapons captured from the Chinese
Nationalists. Their fighting force is superior to that of the Tennorary
12 Army.

he wishes to travel outside of Kunming, he must first obtain permission from

are all well-versed in Southeast Asian languages, and their mission is to train
nersonnel to e:-.able them to infiltrate and communize Southeast Asia.

lished in Yunnan by. the Communists. Subjects taught at the university include
Communist ideology, administration, finance, tax collection, industry., and
reconstruction. Communists plan to send these students to various elaces as
cadres upon completion of their courses.
