THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. Many Chinese Communist regular troops are deserting in the Canton area
and trying to reach Hong Kong.
2. The Chluchiang (113-33, 24950) Airfield is being expanded. Underground
hangers and oil dumps are being built at the field.
3.
Because the Canton authorities fear air raids, large arounte of supplies
are not stored in one place in the city. The authorities do not allow
more than 100 picule of rice to be stored in one area.
4. Students in Canton are being urged by municipal authorities to help in the
25X1 construction work at White Cloud* and Trisnho Airfields.
s. The attitude of the general nubl.ic in Canton is pro-United States. The
people in Canton are hoping for world war, because they believe that the
United States and its allies would win,

6. A new residence certificate, known as the reople?s Residence Certificate,
is to be issued in Canton about early February 1951 after the completion
of the census, which is scheduled to start on 15 December. After the census
all new arrivals in Canton will be considered I'doubtfulr' residents. They
will be issued temporary certificates until they are thoroughly checked by
the authorities. New arrivals in Canton who are staying at hotels or
private homes must report to the authorities as temporary residents.
