In late December approximately 10 Soviet advisers and high-ranking Chinese Communist air officers, stationed at Chiench-iao (120-. inspected the mountainous areas of N1ankaofeng (! -V 19 Januaxy onks in temples on-top of these mountains were forced by the (.:4t ,`'~ ), and Yuhuangshan (4 ), near ie Chinese Communists to leave., and it was rumored in Chionch-iao that the Chino&e Ce uniets wore going toestatblioh radar stations and anti-aircraft positions on these mountain tops. 2a The new runway at Hungjao Airfield, completed in July 1950, is ap?roxima ely iti.,000 feet long and 150 feet rride. The field is equip _ed with night flying facilities, a radar station, and a control toror on the east tide of the runway,-which is oriented in a north-south direction. There arc barracks about 1,000 feet behind the control tower. There are ap)roxi:nately 50 hangars in the airfield area, 35 of which are underground. The hen 910, rs are dome-shaped and are built of reinforced concrete; they now contain Soviet YAK-s and 10 U1S cargo planes. Two battalions of Chinese Conanunist troops are guarding the field. 3.
