2. The 2 Corps was ordered to push as far as the 37th Parallel before 15 January,
The mission of the 2 Division was to out through the mountains south of
Yanggu (12800, 3806) in order to break the UN supply lines. Food and
ammunition were to be captured; none would be supplied from the North Korean
rear areas. Each battalion of this division had eight communications per-
sonnel who operated two Soviet field phones and one wireless,
3. In early December the North Korean 2 Corps left the Chakang area for Yanggu
via Changpyong9 by truck as far as Hichon; they went the remaining distance
on foot, traveling only at night. Unidentified Chinese Communist units
totaling 150,000 men who were completely armed also moved through Chakang
Province to the south. They were followed by 200,000 Chinese Communists,
only 10 percent of whom were equipped with rifles.
4. The North Korean 2 Division is composed of he 11, 6 and 17 Regiments. The
,division commander is Major General YI Ho The 4 Regiment com-
mander is Lieutenant Colonel CHBOE Su-chin The divisiaxa is
equipped with new padded khaki and white reversible uniforms, Japanese-style
boots, and fur caps which the Chinese Communists supplied after the division's
training was completed. Seventy percent of the troops were armed and had
100 rounds of ammunition each. No ammunition reached the division until
29 December at Inje (12810, 38.04),
5o On 26 December the 6 Regiment moved from Oron..ni (128?011 3756) to the
Kamagol (approximately 12759., 37-Ia0) (? Kom~yul.>li? 127..514, 37112) area. On
30 December 39000 men of the 2 Division were massing in the Kwandae-ri
(128?06, 3&=00) area.

1. Beginning in mid-November, the North Korean 2 Division was give. 6 weeks'
reorganization and retraining, and was established in Chakang Province on
the South Hamfrong-North Pyongan Border. Forty percent of the division
was composed of North Korean army regulars, 30 percent were ROK personnel
who volunteered or were conscripted during the North Korean occupation,
and the rest were North Koreans who were conscripted in August and
September. The 2 Division is part of the North Korean 2 Corps. Two other
unidentified corps were also training in the Chakang area.

7. It was rumored among North Korean officers of the 2 Division that sufficient
food was taken north into Chakang Province to feed four North Korean armies
for 2 year, The rumor was believed because plentiful supplies were given
the division during training,
