The Rtanj coal mine is situated approximately eight kilometers south of
Boljevac. The surrounding area is hilly and partially wooded. An over-
head ropeway, approximately six kilometers long, connects the mine to its
separation plant, which is located at Mirovo. A rough mountain road via
Ilno and Boijevac connects the mine with Soko Banja. The mine is ad-
ministered by its own directorate., which is located at the mine. and is
directly subordinate to the Ministry of Mines of the Republic of Serbia
in Belgrade.
2. The total 1949 output amounted to approximately 82,000 tons of stone coal
with 40 percent ash content. The total monthly output for January 1950,
was 10,000 tons. The entire output is consigned for consumption by the
Yugoslav railroads.
