1, Source learned in early INov -,tuber 1950 that the "erbst (1.1 ('2/D 93)
airfield was to be enlarged. Three strips of land, L0, 30 and 12
acres, located in the Straguth (TAI 53A' 08) area, were purchased
or confiscated for the extension of the runway, The Volksoigener
Betrieb Bauunion (nationalized plant) (VB), Dresden (N 52/F 29),
was .ven the contract for the improvement of the runway and the
construction of some barracks,. Construction sheds wore set up by
the firm, About 30 to 40 men and women from Deetz (L 53/:; 09) were
employed unloading building x aterial which arrived by train.
2. It was rumored among the laborers that sovwral hundred workers were
to be employed. The improvement work was to be oomaletod by I.ay
1951,
3, To date, no jet fighters larger than a i:.i-15 have been seen at the
field. * There was no night flying with fighters, but jot aircraft
practiced taking off and landing at the field almost ever; second
night.
4, No four--on .no aircraft have been observed in Zorbst,
25X1 A 0omMnt, This is the first information that the airfield is 25X1 A
to o on ar4ec.toward the oast. Another source previously reported
that building material arrived at the field and that two construction
sheds were erected on the o_.storn and of the runway.
This supports the probability that construction work is to be done
in the eastern section of the landing, field. It is ?ossibly planned
to widen the narrow 500-motor concrete strip Which is an extension
of the 2,600-meter runway. Thus the runway would be 3,100 meters long.
The reason for the presumed extension of the runway is not knorm.
The old runway was long enough for I.a.,-15 jet aircraft, For sketch

25X1A'"{ Comment, No reports have been received indicating that jet
aircraft of a larger type than the :.iv 15, are stationed at the field.
Another source indicated that the field is still occupied by two
fighter regiments.
