U On 12 January four Soviet gunboats arrived at 1'1hannpoa. They were assigned by the Navy Department in Peiping to the Kvrangtung Naval Defense Headquarters. Each gunboat, is a 700-ton vessel capable of a speed of 30 knots and manned by 20 Soviet and 100 Chinese Communist naval personnel 2. On 9 January 200 baxes'of aviation supplies arrived at Canton on the Canton IIanko7 railroad. They were immediately sent to White Cloud Airfiol? 3. On 13 January LIU Jab ming 411 V~ ;, ., cmnmandor of the Chinese Communist Air Force 7 Siluadron, and 26 Chinese Cwmuniet pilots arrived at Canton from Shanghai. On 20 January all were at 7Jhite Cloud Airfield. 4. On 20 January there were approximately 800 Chinese Communist and Soviet air force personnel at ",Th1te Cloud Airfield. The Soviets wore billeted in netirly constructed barracks. 5. The Chinese Communists are constructing a now airfield at :Tangchiangtung (IL --- north of Pear ru (113.26, 23-01). 6. Chinese Ccramunist troops guarding the Canton..KoT1oon Railroad have'dug fox holes near Ch'angpeing (114-01, 22-58) and Changmut'ou (714.06, 22-53). 7, On 17 January two regiments of the 3 Field Army and one other regiment were at 1'Thampoa. The 158 Division was garrisoning-Canton. The 67 Division and the 21 Argrvrere stationed at Huiyang (714-26, 23-05),, The 201 Regiment, 67 Division, was at Tanshui (114?28, 22-Ii7).
