THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
During the first part of January 1951 a small cub aircraft was seen over
Braila. Residents say that this cub aircraft is based at the Lacul Sarat
Soviet airfield.
Reportedly, the Ianca airport is still under construction. Civilians, soldiers,
and "aristocratic" youth have been drafted to work on this airporto
Observation towers are now under construction at the Progresul Factory in Braila
(formerly Franco Romana). Forty-five observation towers of wood an iron are
to be constructed in Rumania. As of December 1950, thirty towers have already
been completed. Four of these towers with Soviet guards are located along
the coastline between Galati and Braila,
Reportedly, the Tractorul Factory (formerly IAR Factory) which has been making
tractors will reconvert to aircraft production.
A new hig1svay bridge over the Prahova River between Banesti and Campina is
under construction. This bridge is scheduled to be completed by 1952?
The road from Hasarab to Cernavoda has been paved. The road between Braila
and Giurgiu was asphalted in September 1950.
A Soviet wide gauge railroad exists into Rumania from Renj to Larga, At
Large goods are transferred to Rumanian standard gauge freight cars0 The
materials brought from the Sovi et Union include machinery, pig iron, aluminum,,,
lead, bronze, cables, and small trucks.

A new dock area in Galati is new on a round the clock schedule. The iron ore
which is brought to the new basin area, is reloaded on railroad oars and
lighters. It is then taken up the Danube River for processing. New furnaces
have been installed in the now basin area for processing the ore. These
furnaces are not yet completedo
Each day eight to twelve trains pass Ploesti en route to Brasov. Each train
needs three locomotives to make the grade, Each train consists of 60 cars.

are being rehired on a small }cafe. Cargoes do not agree vrith the manifest
