E1 Declassified Class. Charged To: TS S th.: PH 70-2 25X1 1. Prior to 16 November 1950, AT Arty Bn was located in Dvory I 25X1 near Karlovy Vary (N 51/i' 69). It was subordinate to a division headquarters con:.anded.by General It,yTtir, (fnu)., Mich was located in Karlovy Vary. The battalion was commanded by Major Skarda, (fnu). 2. The AT artillery battalion vas organized into a headquarters and four AT companies, designated I3-1 through l-1. Company 13-1 was commanded by Lieutenant Kral, (fnu), and consisted of 1 officer, 5 N Cos and 45 L2'. The entire bat - talion was estimated at not less than 300 men. 3. Company Fi-1, like all other companies, was oquippod with four German 75--rm AT guns., each towed by a Studebaker truck. The company also had ti~-,o snaller ammunition carriers. The personnel were armed with submachine guns and pistols. !t. From 2 T.-Tay to 21 June 1950, the battalion held AT firing, practice at the vil- lage of Lobzy (N 51/P 53) in the Kaisers ald. During the first phase of the train- in#;9 an AT gun was emplaced 500 meters from a du=tm tank, on top of which was an explosive Charge that could be detonated from a distance by a man in a foxhole. In line with the tank dummy and the AT ~,.un, a distance of about 80 meters from the AT gun, was a rod which was about 120 cm high and with a car- bide lamp mounted on it. At first the gunner adjusted the gun approximately at the tank du, y, with the help of the carbide lamp. Ile corrected the adjust- ment as soon as the explosive charge on top of the tank dummy was set off. Thereafter., the gunner fired at the tank dummy five tines, the score then being determined. During the second phase of the training., the. gunner adjusted the gun without the help of a carbide lamp. He was told only the approximate direction of the tan's durur~y and had to lay the gun upon detonation of the explosive charge on top of the target. During the third phase, the gunner did the.entire adjustment of the gun upon seeing the explosive charge on the target going off.
