1m Shortly before Christmas 1950 pork completely disappeared from the markets of
Bucharest? No pork was sold in the state stores and the price on the black
market reached 220 to 280 lei per kilogram0
2a It is believed that a serious meat shortage will develop in Rumania by early
February 1951 since the Rumanian Govern~:maent has no livestock reserve. The
authorities are buying the cattle of private individuals to feed the population.
But the number of livestock in private hands has decreased sharply and has now
almost disappeared because of heavy taxation and the lack of feed0 Only now is
the Rumanian Government giving consideration to the creation of a livestock
revs a rv'e0
