1. Increased pressure is being exerted on Bulgarian farmers to collectivize.
The government is demanding greater production, but is withholding need
grain.
2. There has been no seed grain or com neroial fertilizer available to the
farmers for the past four years.
3. Most of the wheat collected in northeastern Bulgaria during September
and October has been ruined by rain as it lay piled beside the railroads
waiting for transportation. Rail transportation is very limited. Source
estimates that 25 percent of the two months' harvest was lost in this
manner.
4. In January 1951 increased tax demands were made by the government.
Bulgarians have been forced to contribute money to aid their "Korean
Brothers". On 15 January 1951 a huge "Peace Bond" drive was launched.
This is similar to the Soviet lottery bond and everyone is forced to
contribute.
5. Uranium ore continues to be loaded at Burgas.
