The 53 (ic) Army was in the vicinity of the Yonp~o (127-32, 39-48)
airstrip? The troops were dug in on the hillsides Sane houses in the
area were used as billets.
Eight thousand troops were billeted is the priavinc;iAll government building
in Chongjin.
5. The 1 Field Army (known as a special task force) was in the former
Japanese railway workers billet area at Nanam (129.11 41-43) with 9OQCo
poorly equipped troops, There are many air-raid shelters in this .area,

of Pyongyang,, They were reported to be replacements for the 4 Field
Army in Munch n on.
One division was in the Munpayong (127-21, 39-14) area, moving south
to the rionsan and Anbyon areas. The unit was reported to be a part of
the North Korean 7 (sic) Corps.

Army) arrived at Hungnam from Chongjin in mid February and still was at
Hungnam, with headquarters at Nokuchi (sic) In the former residences of

any. Soviet self-propelled guns, 20 to 30 T,34 tanks, and 1110 Zia Soviet trucks.
The units included the 57 and 91 Mechardzed Corps.,* poorly equipped, with
Japanese 38, 99, and U S. M-1 rifles; the 80 Cavalry Corps; and ,,.r,e
infantry corps, Mechanized corps strength is seven to eight thousand men.
The cavalry corps is used for reconnaissance and numbers 59000 Manchurian-
born :Mongols on horses.

Girls High School. Five thousand men were attached to this unit; they
were billeted in the areas The commander was Major General CHOPNG Sun;m-taek,
a former officer in the Soviet army.

in the vicinity of Ramhung0
III,, Ten thousand Chinese Communist and five thousand North Korean troops were
reported in the vicinity of Z'onsan to meet a UN invasion.
