They are also needed in the alun num industry. bnN 1a In December 1950 or January 1951 the SAG Siemens Plania plant in Berlin.. Lichtenberg made a contract with the Mensen Plant in Nedfstadt am Rttebenberge/Iiannovor (L 53/X 13) for the delivery of special coal tisr for the production of electrodes. * The first shipment of about 250 tons was scheduled to leave soon thereafter. The Soviet Zone of Germany depends on coal tar imports because the quality of the coal tar produced in the Soviet Zone is not always adequate for standard requirements. 2. The capacity for producing electrodes at the Siemens Plania Plant ,me doubled from 1949 to 1950. In addition to the Siemens Plania Plant, l t d silicon (Silit) factory, the arc lamp carbon D faotry, '~ ar -brush the carbon nfactory and the factory for furnace construction. The production of the plant is subdivided into the production groups "Grosekoblen", "11eirkohlen" and""Silit*. The "Grosskohlen" production group comprises the following productions carbide electrodes for the production of calcium carbide, and calcium oyanamide; carbon electrodes for reduction furnace, for manufacturing ferro.-sil.ioon, ferro-ohrcmium, ferro-nolybdenumt, Ferro-vanadiimt, corundum, and for electric steel furnao~es of old design; aluminum anodes for the production of pure aluminum; carbon stones made of shaped coal (geformte Noble) for blast furnace Brings and furnace bottoms; electrode masses for Soederberg electrodes; graphite electrodes for the electric steel production in arc lamp furnaces; graphite plates and rode for the liquid (waeoserige) electrolysis, especially for the chlorine alkali electrolysis; graphite for special purposes, especially for hard metal production such as tungsten carbide for cutting tools and armor,-piercing aheUs. 25X1A STATE ARMY CLASSIQCATIO X HAW NSt2 ~ Mitkav i1VINr RclaI SM N DATE DISTR. 4 April 1951 NO.
