OF PAGES 1 NO. OF ENCLS. (LtSTEU BELOW) 25X1 X SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. 1. YFII Chien-ying, who has been recently suffering from a heart attack, has told his uncle that he is to be relieved of the chairmanship of the Kwangtung Government by the central authorities probably in early April. NIEIi Jung-ohen will take this positionn* 2. YEH further stated that CIIU To is to be removed from his position as Commander- in-Chief of the Chinese Communist Army and will be replaced by LIU Poch' eng . LIUwill also become superintendent of the Central Military Academy. 3. According to YFIII, the 3 Field Army is to be taken over by the deiiuty commander, who is ncnv in Korea? 4., These changes are all evidence of increasing control of the Government by the pro- Soviet leaders-who use such ruthless methods to obtain their ends.. YEH stated. Soviet control through this group of leaders has been considerably strengthened., and for tho' first time China is fully in the hands of a foreign power, political position for him, it does not seem logical for YEA, a native of Kcrangtung, to be replaced by a native of Szechuan. It is rumored that ITI??H is to take over command in Korea, moreover., Ca m:zent0 The replacement of CHU by LIU will have had to be arranged diplomatically, as CIIU is second only to MlAO Tse-tung in public esteem, even though he has never been a politician. It appears probable that CIIU will be ex-officio the president of the Central Military Academy. If LIU 11-1 were to take over the command of all Chinese Communist Armies, his position CWD- 2tw_Maander of the 2 Field Army might be taken over by CII'ruT I. Gomxent. SIT Yu is deputy commander of the 3 Field Army. 1A Ctax!efto tells of changes on a z~.~. t1y a.rrr~;:' e'r~ , ._ns ga e by mem ers o the pro oviet group in an effort to maintain their control.
