The railroads of the Eastern Zone have a total of 5723 steam loconotivc s, of

railroad has a number of foie_i_rn-cake locomotives of which only 36 are in
operating condition.

still undergoing tests. Final results depend on the completion of a locomotive
tenting car. No experiments have as yet been mac'o with bituminous coal dust.
4,~ All maintenance and repair work suf ers from a shortage of materials, especially
soot pipe:, tires, and cotters (Splints). Coal supplies are 1ov.
5? According to a statement of the deputy, director-. noral, the arrival of 9,000
freight cars is e:,-pocted from the Fast, so that the maintenance schedule will
be increased by 61000 G2 and 1,500 each of G14 and G5 catc,gorics.
