No markings were Observed on thesaanes..At 9 a.m. a truck carried fourteen men to the jet aircraft. The soldiers removed the snow from the planes and took off the red sheet metal covers from the air intake ahd air exhaust apertures, lbut the engines were nnt started. * ? 2. The field was covered with snow about 10 Cm deep. At 9:15 a.m.' a sOldier laid a ? landing T on the rahaay.' At 10 a.m. a closed truck with a rod antenna about 3.5: ' meters high was perked near the runway, at about one-third of the total runway length from the eastern end of the runway. About 25 men were standing around the radio truck. One hangar was opened and twosingle-engine,abw-wihgmOnoplanes taxied out of-the hangar. The engines of the planes. were :warmed up. :Then the'air- craft taxied to the take-off point and'took'off-at I0:50-a.M. for local flights: The aitcraft had trapezOidal.wings, radial engines, ana114roPeller.hub,. landing gear which retracted inward, taiX,wheels, two;-Seater.cockpits With .seats .n. tandem, antenna rod, on cockpit with antenna leading to theioval-shaped rudder assembly. **'The snow was not removed from the runway. Two tank trucks, two closed trucks, one or two open trucks; and one closed trai- ? ler painted blue were parked close to .a wooden watchtower,A4 meters high, Which %. was in the vicinity of the jet planes. A row of spotlights each 35'cm in diameter were still along the southern edge of the.hard-surface.runway. The spur track seemed to be used, although no. railroad cars were seen. ' I. The radio installation, consisting of a radio-mast braced on all sides and one large and two or three small wooden shacks, was still east of the field in the extension of the rmnway. ihree men were seen near the radio installation.
