l,, Prior to December 19550 a VP interpreter school was located
in the Infanterie Raseene on Olbrichtstrasse, Leipzig-Goh11so
It was planned to move the school to Hlolzdorf near Weimar.
in order that the enrollment could be increased from the
December complement of 62 to 100 students. The school employed
.14 instructors. The male students at the school came from
VP schools and VP Bereitschaften, and the female students
came from the HVA4, Mot of the students had no previous
knowledge of Russian.
2m The monthly curriculum prescribed 32 to 35 hours of pol

cultural indoctrination, 70 to 75 hours of Russian, 2 to 4
hours of German 3 to 6 hours of arithmetic, 2 to 3 hours of of practice firing, 2 to 4 hours of athletics, 1 or 2 hours
of instruction on service regulations, 1 to 5 hours of nap
reading, 6 to 10 hours of tactical instruction, and 3 to 4
hours of basic training. The general directives issued by
the HVA called for a total of 1,670 hours of instruction
during one course in accordance with the aforementioned
schedule. The current course started 11 September 1950
and is to end 1 September 1951. During this period the
students are to learn military terminology so that they will
be qualified to be interpreters on the staff of high opera-
tional headquarters; they are to hold a rank not lower than
that of a VP Rat At the opening ceremony on 11 September
1950, VP Generalinspekteur Heinz Hoffmann said that the
course would probably be shortened, and demanded that the
first group of interpreters be trained and available for
assignment in eight months.
