/. Location: The mining machinery fretry f"etleZavod COmbinata
gliERWIP. in Prokonievsk ( 5. 50 L. 86 -??49 B. ? )popularly
called Rudo-Remonte,is situated in the southeastern nart of
the city of Prokopievsk. The compound is approximately 350 x
200 meters,with the northern corner available for expansion.
The road to Stelinsk and the Prokopievsk railroad running
parallel to the comPound serve as transportation router. The
Prokopievsk railroad stetion is ebout four kilometers from the
compound.
2. Installation: This factory is a new installation developed
after lo4 . Only a forge, ea small machine shoo)and an old
boiler forge were in the compound prior to that time. Al].
the new buildings were built elclusively with German and
aaPanese PW labor.
3. The technical equipment was rated below average by some of
source's fellow prisoners. Although the machinery is general-
ly new (new German, English ,and American workbenches and old
Russian and German workbenches)pit is badly neglected. Con-
veyor belts are not used, and the cranes in the boiler forge
and machine shop (rib) are frequently out of order, requiring
days for repair. To finish .one nroduction piece it is nec-
essery to take it to four or six different shoos spread over
the entire compound. Material lies everywhere and hinders
production progress.
4. Electric power is obtained from an outside source. Raw
materials, iron and steel, lome from the nearby Stalinsk
factory. It usually arrives in the form of section iron and
steel.
5. The factory has two separate railroad sours cennected to a
switchyard north of the comnound. Special locomotives are
not necessary for switching service. .

'1.oduction: This lart nroduces mining equipment and mac'lin-
ery such as winches, electricily onereted conveyors, nurps,
drill equipment, stee'i. drills, parts for steel drills, ball
bearings and rings, goers of ii sizes, and any iron construct-
ion pieces needed for mining. At one time the factory produced
600 winches for rope n three months.

nPrty number renorted*Ly qualiStes him for the job. The pro-
duction chief Is a J*Ar, an unumally efficient person with
exnPrience in every phase of tne production. He was well
liked by the 7117's0 rine,.acc:Pientyand production commissions
annear at the factory frequently. Commission members usually
wore the mine uniform, black wth blue facing and gold 'Piping,
stars and stripes.
')ersonnel: The workers number about 300 per shift with nro-
duction onerating in two and t'xee.shifts. When the new buildinp and the ball hearing section are finished, the personnel
figure rill be considerably hi:her.
0. Security measures: The compomd is surrounded by a combination
of nicket fence and stone rail and is guarded by a snecial
factory guard.
