1. Members of the former upper and middle classes are being deported from
Budapest to a concentration camp in the Szolnok area
or to rural districts Those arrPcted
no uae especially aristocrats, army officers, capitalists, and members
of the intelligentsia. Whole families are being moved, regardless of age
or ability to work.
2. The movement was started on 21 May 1951. The persons to be deported are
given 24 hours' notice, and are permitted to take only hand baggage with
them.
3. It is believed that a huge influx of workers from the provinces, who need
housing in Buempest imodiately, have given rise to these deportations.
