By agreement with the USSR,, Com uni st China has assumed the leadership of all Asiatic nations. The Soviet Union recognizes Chinese hegemony in the Far East., since Soviet ideas are being carried out there in any case, 2. The Asiatic Cominform was formed under Chinese leadership as a strictly Asiatic Communist organizatAon. It is completely divorced from the European Cominform. The two organizations receive separate orders,'from the USSR1 which has separate policies concerning the Far East and Europe. The Chinese interventi in China, for example,, would never, influence Soviet policies toward. Europe, 3. Before June 1950,, the Chinese Communist government had formed a pact for muti assistance with the North Korean government, Just before the invasion of South Korea by North Korea of 25 June China repeated her pledge of assistance if she were needed. China had orders to intervene in Korea at the time of the Inchon landings., but Chinese troops could not' be mobilized in time to do ao. Beginning in April 19519 the Chinese Communist government has reviewed the of assistance with North Korea. Because of heavy Chinese Communist loss miscalculations as to the end of the war,, China has a new interpretation of the pact: to aid North Korea only to the extent that the war is confine, to Korea. China will take no chances on provoking the United States into jaamb Nationalist troops for an invasion of the China mainland. 25X1A 1?.
