Until 1945 the total irrigated area in Bulgaria was 30,000 hectares. The anount being irrigated at present is 130,OCO hectares. Along With construction of the dams on the Danube, trhich are supposed to be completed in 1955, worlt is proceeding on the project to irrigate the valley of the Danube. The irrigation project is to be completed in 1952. The Soviet Union has sent the electric equipment uhich t=rill be used to paver the pumping stations. 2. The first part of the irrigation project was completed in 1950, and the valley of the Belene River, between Nikopol and Svishtov, is under irrigation. About the end of thy 1951 a second irrigation system was put in operation northeast of Ruse in the lower valley of the Brushlyaaska River.
